Cindee's beauty tips inspired by Audrey Hepburn



Being a girl is so much fun. When it comes to beauty we have all kinds of things to keep us busy. And now with YouTube and blogs we can share our tips so easily. I think it great to be a girl or let me re-phrase that - its such an amazing thing to be a woman. Especially in this day and age.

One thing I've been thinking about is how much time us woman put into our outer appearance. Hair care(which I've been neglecting), getting healthy looking skin, makeup to emphasize our features, having fun & being creative with getting our nails done, waxing, exfoliating, tanning, working out at the gym....the list goes on.

When you take care of your appearance it shows that you take care of yourself. It doesn't mean you are being superficial unless you emphasize your efforts ONLY in the physical. So what if you have the most luscious lips, if every word you speak is negative. So what if you have the most beautiful bambi eyes and the longest eye lashes, if you aren't able to see the goodness in life? I was inspired by Audrey Hepburn's classic quote:

I am definitely still working on a lot of these but here is my take:

For lovely eyes
♥ Smile with ur eyes(i call it Sm-eyes). You can tell a genuine smile from a insincere one easily. Smiling from the mouth is only half of it. The other half is in the eyes. Eyes are very powerful in communicating how you feel about someone. Why not make someone feel important and special this way. I think I've mastered this when Im having my photo taken but I have to remind myself to bring it into my daily life. When I do, its been life enhancing.
♥ See the good in you. Notice how you talk to yourself? Is it positive, kind, forgiving? Or is it negative, harsh, critical? Its ok to have things you're not happy with but accept that. Acknowledge that everyone, including yourself has a beautiful light to shine into the world. Sometimes it can get dim but focusing on your strengths is one of the most powerful things u can do for urself.
♥ Look for ppl's good qualities. Everyone has many! You could help someone see something they havent been able to see in themselves & it could make a world of difference to them. We all want to be acknowledged & seen.
♥ See the beauty in your life. There is beauty in all things, if only you choose to see them. It doesn't mean being in denial or ignoring an issue in ur life. It means fully embracing it

For beautiful lips:
♥ Watch what kind of words come out of your mouth. Easier said than done but just pay attention. What kind of energy do you want to put into this world? Words are powerful.
♥ Avoid gossip. I know this can be difficult but ask urself what you gain from it.
♥ Laugh more. It shows that you don't take life too seriously. I honestly don't find a lot of things funny - yes esp when I watch Ben Stiller movies =P lol but I realized that things don't have to be funny to cause laughter. It happens naturally when you're having fun. What can you do to add more fun into your life?
♥ I find ppl who genuinely smile so attractive. What is one of the top qualities ppl find attractive in the opposite sex? It's usually the smile that makes the heart skip a beat. We were having this discussion at dinner Sunday night.



For a nice figure:
♥ Im not gonna tell you to stop eating meat bcos that's not realistic for some ppl. But what I do suggest is to be more aware of where the food you eat comes from. Animals that are unethically killed for their meat release a chemical into their body caused from the fear they feel when they're being brutally butchered. It's a toxin along with all the other chemicals & steroids that you're putting in ur body. Do you want that kind of energy in ur body? I think our consciousness has raised enough to understand that this is not right. Its a responsibility not an obligation to the planet
♥ Drink more water
♥ Get those muscles moving and when you can, walk instead of drive. Reduce those emissions. I need to do this more. I hate Calgary's transit system & cold weather but those are just excuses =P
♥ Be kind to your body. Appreciate what it does for you & develop some compassion for it. Yes Im a shorty & I've worn heels all my life. It's not until very recently that I've slowly minimized my wear of them. I still do but not as often. Why the change of heart? I've realized how magnificent our bodies are...how it functions, heals and protects us. I start to feel bad when I am purposely harming and hurting it. Forgive me fashion for I have sinned lol*
♥ Walk with confidence. Walk knowing who you are and what your values are. When you shine you allow others to do the same.

A month has passed by since I've posted anything. I am struggling to stay ontop of my blog these days. Not just my blog but a few other things in general. Has this ever happened to you? You start reading a book, put it down for a few days and when you come back to it you realize that the bookmark has fallen out and you've lost your place. Bcos you havent read it for a few days you cant remember where you left off. You flip thru pages and re-read a few paragraphs, searching for familiarity until FINALLY you find the spot. Well that's how Im feeling right now. I hate losing track of myself. Me being the "book" of course. So now, where was I?

Ah, yes. So the winner of my giveaway is Alice P. from T.O Canada who answered: What I love about myself is my courage to live life fully. Thx for the 5 other ppl who entered. 5 is a very low number *ahem*

I also want to say yay! I won a BBcream from Riya's giveaway. So thank you for that, my dear. i just received it in the mail. Speaking of mail...i got a little surprise on Valentines Day from Mr. Wonderful. I havent been surprised with a sweet gesture like that in a long time. Brings out my romantic side.
















I received these eyelashes from http://www.blogger.com/www.kkcenterhk.com. They are based in HK and have a website that you can order from. I didnt have to wait long for my order so it made me happy since Im not very patient when it comes to waiting. Im sure you'll find something you like bcos they have a variety of things to choose from. The eyelashes that I ordered are: ES A021 And ES A720 .





ES A720: I liked the hairs on this one bcos they are very natural but its too sparse and I dont really like the strip. Some strips are so thick and stiff, you feel the weight when you apply them but this one was the opposite. It's more on the flimsy side which made it hard to mold into a perfect curve to fit your eye. Usually it takes me a few seconds to apply eyelashes but this one I struggled with




The other set I ordered is: ES A021 . This one is for ur under eye. I LOVE these ones. They are soo natural you can't even tell that they are fake eyelashes but it gives you extra length(esp if you're asian and have short lashes). I found them very easy to apply and you can trim them just to fit in the corners for a more natural look.




Im still waiting on one other model bcos they ran out of stock. So i will let you guys know about those when I get them.

BB Cream



I've heard so much about BB creams but I havent had the opportunity to try yet so
I was super excited to come across this contest hosted by Riya from pinkstrawberries.
I hope I win one.

So what is BBCream?

It stands for Blemish Balm Cream. It's an all in one cosmetic/skincare product which I read, initially gained popularity in Korea. The difference between BBcream and other make-up applications is that it is a skincare product combined with make-up. I think its great for me bcos Im always on the run and traveling, so having a product that does it all saves me so much time and luggage space.

So BBCreams give you a flawless complexion by acting as a foundation or a make-up base to conceal blemishes & discoloration as well as supply ur skin with nutrients to make it feel smoother and softer. Most of them contain SPF and depending on the brand, may offer anti-wrinkle, scar healing or whitening benefits.

One thing that I noticed after trying the BBCream that I won from this contest is that the product is a little too light for my skintone. I dont have a fair complexion like most asians love back in asia so I had to experiment and mix it with my tinted moisturizer. Most BBCreams are formulated to be lighter. French ME!

Every since I was a little girl I have collected images and created daydreams of what it would be like to visit Paris. The City of Romance they call it but also the City of Art. Parisians are true to their culture and to themselves and I find this most intriguing. It is home to Couture houses such as Dior, CHANEL, Balenciaga, Givenchy and former members like Paco Rabanne, Patou, Poiret & Vionnet who were huge influences in fashion.

Parisians have a very confident way of holding themselves. They are chic, sophisticated and effortlessly elegant. So lets see how you can incorporate some Parisian into your style. How do you capture that Je ne sais quoi?



♥ Posture. The first tip I would like to give you is to correct and improve your posture. Not only does it make a difference in your appearance, it's also good for your health. Correcting your posture is pretty much a matter of awareness. Other things you can do is to strengthen your stomach muscles. This is your core and the center of balance. When you strengthen this part it can help you stand straighter. Taking yoga classes are beneficial as well

♥ Choose classic feminine pieces. You will wear these often because they are classics so invest in the best quality you can afford. It's like your canvas. And the accents you add gives it character

♥ Less is more. Here in America we are used to getting all dolled up for a night out. Before we walk out that door we have to make sure we have every hair in place, that our fake eyelashes are applied & that we're wearing our favorite push-up bra. Nothing wrong with that but its not gonna work if you're trying to go for the Parisian style. Don't over think and over do your look. Focus on your best features and dress with that in mind and choose clothes that fit your figure. You want to feel confident, powerful and classy

♥ Pay attention to detail. Are your nails shaped and clean, is there a run in your stockings, is your handbag full of old recipes and unnecessary items? They say you can distinguish a woman's personality by the contents of her handbag

♥ Wear sexy undergarments. This is more for yourself than anyone else. It makes you feel sexy, flirty and pretty. Isnt that what being a woman is all about? The French have a lot of sex appeal without having to reveal or expose too much skin. And I believe its one of the secrets to setting the mood and confidence for the day

♥ Add chic accents
like lace, bows, pearls, diamonds and fragrance

Love your cute small ears? Adorn it with something that sparkles. Or do you have big dolly eyes? Try on a new pair of lashes to accentuate them or a bold new shade of eyeshadow in your favorite color. Have you always been told you had luscious lips? Apply some lip venom and dabble on your favorite lip gloss on top to make them extra juicy. The list goes on. Use your creativity & dont forget the finishing touch. Confidence.

I've been working out my back muscles a lot so I designed a dress especially for Valentines Day that will expose my backside. Stay tuned to see my creation =) It's super cute and sexy

How to shine bright like a star

Cindee's Guide to Shining



“To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest”


One of the things that I have learned and re-learned over the years is that in order to shine your brightest you have to not be afraid of standing out from everyone else. This can be hard to do bcos you risk feeling vulnerable to other ppl's judgment and opinions. You shrink back because it feels more comfortable to fit in. But in reality are you doing anyone any favors by holding yourself back from life and not living up to your full potential? When I talk about "Shining" I dont mean Hollywood Glitz and Glamour. Im talking about being the best of who you can be from the inside out and not being afraid to sparkle.


Begin with accepting yourself.
Be true to yourself. Understand, accept and embrace who you are, not who you're not. Read this past article I had written.
Identify & develop your talents so you can express them fully. What are you drawn to? The things you always gravitate toward are often related to your natural ability. What kind of things came easier to you than your friends? Do ppl compliment you on a specific quality or ability you have? (She's so compassionate, he has a good eye for color, he is very creative, she has good sense of style...)

Concentrate on cultivating your strengths instead of focusing so much on your weaknesses
Smile more
Do what you love. I believe that you can only become truly fulfilled when you are doing what you love bcos then you are aligning ur life with your inner self. Yes you will still come across obstacles but bcos your heart is in it, you will meet these challenges from a higher & stronger place. You will learn to transform your adversities into opportunities
Learn & grow. Be open to new information and ways of thinking. Wake up and explore your passions by trying a new class, pick up some books that interest you to stimulate your mind, do something that scares you.

There floating across the pavement surrounded by a flock of men in tuxedos was a woman who was unmistakably Diana Vreeland. She was wearing a sleek yellow satin sheathe that my guess would be Dior circa 1955. It had a matching satin stole and matching yellow satin shoes. White stones sparkled around her neck and at her ears. She looked absolutely amazing.

Now Mrs Vreeland was no beauty certainly by that age. But then she never was – that was the point. But on this evening well into her 80’s, she was dressed to kill and clearly fascinating a large group of men of all ages. They followed her like puppies and hung on her every word. I watched her as she slowly moved to the car. She turned her head this way and that to chat with the men around her. She leaned back against one of the men, tossed her head and laughed. The men couldn’t look away and neither could I. I have never seen a woman move so elegantly (at least off the ballet stage) and more to the point, never have i seen a woman more alive. She was so clearly having the time of her life and her joie de vivre lit all those around her. Mrs Vreeland was perfectly magical and a good part of that magic was her style. How to get sunkissed skin

Sorry it too me a while to address this question but one of my readers had asked me:
Hi Cindee, you always have a nice tan.
Which tanning product do you use and recommend for a nice glow tan?

Before I begin Id like to say that this is the method that I use to tan. It doesnt mean its the correct or safest way so pls use your own discretion. I know you've heard this many times before but its very crucial that you protect yourself and your skin. Use at least an SPF30 and make sure you apply it every half hr. With that out of the way we can begin.



ON THE BEACH
* When im laying out in the sun I always make sure Im greased up. If your skin is dry it takes longer to tan.
* I use HAWAIIAN TROPIC Dark Tanning Oil to get the job done. This is to be applied after your sunscreen has been absorbed into your skin. I reapply whenever I feel that Im drying out.
* Remember to apply sunscreen (environmentally safe is the best way to go) in between. Also you want to be careful if you have sensitive skin bcos the oil might burn you if you stay out in the sun too long. Take breaks. Every 15 mins or so.

AT HOME

* When winter rolls around and I dont get any sunshine I use self tanning products. I never go to the tanning salon anymore. It leaves my skin feeling tender, red and itchy. I was told it's bcos I got a slight burn from it. They say that your chances of getting skin cancer increases every time you get a burn. um ya.

* I know there are a ton of self tanning and spraying products out there but im really too lazy to try new stuff. Im even too lazy to self tan myself for an all year round tan. I only do if I have a special event to attend and wanna look delicious.
* Usually I start developing my tan 3 days before the event that Im planning to go to. * I use the Shoppers Drug Mart brand called LIFE. The product is called Bronze UP Self-Tanning Gelee in Medium or Dark(make sure its in Gel form). I like this product bcos it never streaks and the smell isn't overpowering like alot of other products. If you live in the States another alternative is Loreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion in DEEP. This works as good but its more expensive and it stinks
* Make sure you exfoliate your dead skin prior and then just put it on like you would with any kind of lotion. I do this 3 days in a row and I acquire the PERFECT shade. If I go a day more I start to get orange
* After that I just maintain the base tan I've created with Vaseline Healthy Body Glow in Medium. It does a really really good job

FACE

* Try not to expose your face to the sun too much. Its bad by causing premature wrinkles. I use LANCOME Flash Bronzer. I need to find a new one if anyone knows of any pls msg me. Bcos the one I use only lasts for a few hrs. I like it bcos it bronzes up my complexion but doesnt actually selftan you.
* For powdered bronzer I use Too Faced The Bronzed and The Beautiful. I recieved it as a gift from Jenni last Christmas and i LOOOVE it! My gf Trace used it when we were in NY and she fell in love with it too. You can find it at Sephora.

When we smell, we smell not just with our nose but also with our heart. Smell is a powerful sense as it is tied very strongly to memories. The freshness of rain brings me back to a childhood memory of when i felt truly alive...sitting with my neighbor friend in his backyard patio drenched from the rain, we wrapped ourselves in an itchy blanket as we giggled and laughed till we couldn't distinguish between the raindrops from our tears anymore. Or when you are shopping at the mall you catch a dash of cologne that your past lover used to wear... a hundred billion memories arise in that moment."Smells communicate just as words do...we can choose not only HOW to smell but also how to be remembered, the impressions we make and what mood we leave lingering behind."



Perfume Notes

-Top Notes: These fade after a few seconds. They evaporate quickly and usually consists of short fresh bursts that are immediately noticeable upon application.
-Middle Notes: defines the essence of the scent & is usually described as the "heart." Last a few hours.
-Base Notes: are rich and long-lasting that give scents their depth. This stays with you the longest and mixed with your own scent(yes everyone has their own natural scent, not talking about B.O =P) to create a unique smell


Tips
♥ The best way to choose a fragrance is to look for scents that have the same similarities as the ones you loved before. Usually you are attracted to a particular fragrance family. In this site: Fragrances of the World you can choose your favorite scent and it will give you 3 similiar scents in the same fragrance family. So start your search there. You'll only overwhelm yourself if you go into a department store and start sniffing every bottle in there. Like love, the perfect one often comes along when you least expect it.
♥ Check out this perfume blog: Now Smell This
♥ Never choose and buy a scent in a hurry because the one you smell right away will not be the same scent you smell later on in the day. They will change so if you're shopping, your first stop should be the perfume counter. Spray some on, continue your shopping while you let the scent settle.
♥ Don't store your perfumes in your bathroom because the temperature in the bathroom is always changing. Also avoid sunlight. Scents and perfumes are light and temperature sensitive. The best place to store them is in your fridge
♥ Fragrance needs to react with your skin and body chemistry so try to avoid spraying it on as the last thing you do before hurrying out of your house
♥ The best way to make a scent last longer is to layer it with matching body products. Spray on your perfume first when you get out of the shower and then apply the matching body lotion
♥ When applying scent, NEVER rub it into your skin. When you do this, you crush the scent molecules & damage its smell
♥ Best places to apply are where the blood supply is closest to the surface of your skin...your wrists, behind ears, ankles, between breasts, back of the knees...

Lipstick Indicator

Lipstick Indicator is based on a theory that women tend to turn to less expensive indulgence during times of recession. Life's little luxuries =P

And for fun, here is a little quiz you can do to determine ur personality traits from the shape of your used lipstick

Some of these shades I have posted before on my old blog but I've added a few new shades to my collection. Yes I have a mild obsession with pink lipstick.


My favorite shade is "Meltdown". It goes so perfectly with my skin tones esp when I wear bronzer. It has an orange tint to it and that's why i chose "Lady Danger" as well. It is an Orange-Red

Making Waves


I know its a lil late to post wknd pics bcos we are now in the middle of the week but better late than never right? So I had a pretty good wknd considering that I havent been out for a while. It was one of those nights that I didnt want to see end. I got home at 6 in the morning. Not bad. lol* So the above collage is an interpretation of what I wore on Saturday. My white leather jacket over white graphic tee with faded fabric finishing, paired with a black satin miniskirt and black stockings.


(ok i know i put my name on all my pics but there's a reason for that!)

And to make my overall look a little more exciting, I used my brand new hair waver from Bed Head. Ordered it online from Folica. I've always been a fan of wavy/crimpy hair. I received this product super fast considering how eager i was and it was fun to use. Time consuming but fun. But then again the first time for anything is always fun.

It is a dual waver with a barrel that can be adjusted depending on how deep you want the waves. I had it on the deeper setting. It was slightly awkward to use at first because each time you go down the length of ur hair you have to match the barrel with where you left off. It was also difficult to crimp the hair at the back of my head. I barely use hairspray in my hair but for this look its necessary or else you look like a frizz ball. Hairspray gives the waves more definition.




If you dont want to spend money on a product like this another alternative is to braid your hair. I'll wash my hair before I go to bed, blowdry it until its about 80% dry and start braiding. After i finish the braids I'll go over them with leave in conditioner followed by hairspray or mousse. Blow dry the braids and go to bed. If I have no where to be the next day I'll leave it on until I go out for the evening.



So in this pic the waves were created with braids. Looks pretty similar hey?
Braiding, can be more time consuming but its healthier & less damaging on your hair

Defining your personal values & goals in the way you dress

Dig a little deeper and ask yourself these questions. How do you define beauty? How do you describe attractiveness in another woman? Do you determine this by physical attributes like her figure or the attractiveness of her face? a certain feature (tiny waist, full chest, perky bum, big eyes...)? Is it something harder to point out? Her poise, charm, personality? Is it her individual style that you notice? her immaculate grooming? Prob'ly not one, but a few of these factors influence your opinion of her and also tells you something about your own desires and standards for yourself. Now let's examine your own goals by going thru the following list. Rate them in order of their importance. Be honest!! Would you rather be:

♥ Dressed in the trendiest outfits?
♥ Appropriately dressed?
♥ Uniquely and distinctively dress, emphasizing on your individuality?
♥ Modest and unnoticed in your choice of clothing. Conformity?
♥ Luxuriously, richly or expensively dressed?
♥ Dressed to flatter your figure
♥ Startling and shocking in your choice of clothing?
♥ Comfortably and simply dressed?
♥ Well groomed, neat & attention focused on detail?
♥ Charming first, and well dressed second?

They say that those who woud like to be distinctive and unique in appearance are prob'ly the most secure and creative.
Different ppl will place diff value and emphasis on what they want and look for in clothing. Where do you fall?

How to control cravings

She mindlessly reaches for the box of cookies, totally unaware that she is feeding her mind more than she is feeding her tummy. It comforts her only for that moment but to her it is good enough.




♥ Be more present. Ask yourself if you are eating because your stomach is hungry or are you trying to feed something else(mental, emotional?). By doing this I realize that I tend to crave and eat more when I am stressed, frustrated, bored or anxious about something. When you know more about your habits & reasoning behind them its easier to break.
♥ Find other ways to comfort your emotional cravings. Feeling stressed? Get a massage, talk to a friend... workout and get your heart pumping. Do something you enjoy or find a way to feel inspired.
♥ Substitute chips, candy, chocolate bars with healthier choices. I find that eating things that have different textures always satisfies me. Granola or nuts added to yogurt, Cocoa-nut bananas, fruit chips, strawberries dipped in organic chocolate
♥ Eat more during the day but smaller portions. It keeps your metabolism consistent. I usually eat something small every 3-4 hrs
♥ Chew gum. I find that this helps
♥ Out of sight, out of mind. Simply stop buying junk food. When you are craving cookies as a midnight snack what are the chances of you getting dressed and driving to the store just to pick up a bag. Very unlikely
♥ Remind yourself of the reasons why you want to stop unnecessary snacking. Better health? to lose weight? to develop more control of your life?

A little note on style

I think the number one important tip when it comes to style is wearing it with confidence. Its not about what you wear as much as how you wear it. ya ya ya i know its cliche but its so true. Only dead fish swim with the stream. So stop buying the latest trends if they dont look good on you. You have to figure out what looks best on your body type and go with it. You’ll just end up looking ridiculous if you’re trying to sport something that you feel uncomfortable or unsure in.

The key is to experiment & find out what looks good and what looks bad on your body. Ive worn so many things that are unflattering on me but at least now I know. Its a process. Just remember to have fun while you’re at it & remember to be true to who you are not to what others are wearing. An individual has personal style only when she adapts fashion to her own appearance and way of life. We dont need anymore carbon copies in this world. Fashion fades, style is eternal.

Shades of grey:

I have been so into the color grey lately. I wear it with accents of black & top it off with something sparkly. Like a necklace, bangles or just my classic silver jewelry(my ring, Gucci watch, Tiffany's necklace or Heart bracelet), and nicely polished nails.





I would call this my t-shirt style?

I like to buy L size t-shirts and make them into dresses. T-shirts are known for comfort and thats one of the reasons why I like it. I think its fun to make something casual into something sexy and club worthy.
